Bessemer, Ala. – Alabama-made, organic fashion line, Earth Creations has been named a winner for Green America’s prestigious national “People & Planet Award” for Summer 2013. The award recognizes innovative entrepreneurial businesses nationwide that deeply integrate environmental and social considerations into their strategies and operations. Three winners were selected from finalists to receive recognition and a grant of $5,000.
Earth Creations began 17 years ago and maintains a sewing factory in Moulton, Alabama. Co-founder, Joy Maples states, “making the bulk of our clothes in Alabama is just one way our company tries to ‘think globally, act locally’. “Not only does producing in our backyard help to revitalize the community, it’s kinder on the planet. And clothes made in the U.S.A. rather than some overseas location, ultimately lead to a smaller carbon footprint. We are fortunate to have customers who really appreciate this.” As winners of the award, Earth Creations will further their outreach and education about sustainability and clothing produced ethically.
Earth Creations has been a founding leader in the “Made in the U.S.A” fashion movement since 1996. Using only American-made organic fibers and natural dyes, they produce high-quality, versatile fashions for women, men and children, available through their online retail shop and over 600 retailers nationwide, including Dillard’s and Whole Foods. They have been featured in the Fox Searchlight film 127 Hours, the Warner Bros. film Dolphin Tale, Southern Living, Alabama Magazine, B-Metro Magazine and numerous other publications.
