Harvesting rainwater helps reduce the demand on domestic water supplies and is a great way to serve as a good steward of the Earth. If you’ve ever wanted to learn more about the benefits of collecting water with a rain barrel and how to construct your own, you won’t want to miss this upcoming workshop opportunity. On Saturday, July 25th, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System in partnership with the Alabama Environmental Council will host a Rain Barrel Workshop at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens from 9:30 – 12:30.
Guests will have the chance to either construct their own “ready to install” 55 gallon barrel with the help of presenters and assistants, or just come to learn how to build their own at home. Rain barrels are one of the most practical irrigation strategies, are low cost, and can be installed along houses, under decks, or in other unused spaces.
