REV Birmingham has unveiled “Zyp”, the official brand for Birmingham’s public bike sharing program scheduled to debut mid-September 2015. The highly-anticipated brand rollout includes a launch of the Zyp bicycle design, social media pages, and website — www.zypbikeshare.com.
“Picturing these new bikes as they ‘zyp’ around town, we wanted to establish a brand that embodied not only the bicycle, but the full bikesharing experience,” said REV’s Director of Zyp BikeShare, Lindsey G. West.
“The Zyp design is fun, modern, simple, action-oriented and unique. It really breaks the mold and captures the spirit of Birmingham at the same time. We can’t thank BIG Communications enough for communicating our vision in such a dynamic way.”
Interested riders and “early adopters” can sign up to receive updates via the Zyp BikeShare e-newsletter at www.zypbikeshare.com. Community members can also stay up to date with Zyp BikeShare developments by following Zyp BikeShare on Facebook and Twitter: @ZYP_BHM.
Slated to launch in September 2015, Zyp BikeShare will include 400 bikes and 40 docking kiosks deployed in Birmingham’s City Center. Riders will be able to check out bicycles for short rides through annual memberships or by swiping their credit cards. The BikeShare system will include 100 electric pedal assist bikes, giving riders a boost along Birmingham’s often challenging terrain.
Sidewalk decals have been deployed within the footprint of the planned system to gather feedback from future users, who can text their thoughts on potential locations.
Zyp BikeShare sponsors include Regions, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and the Alabama Power Foundation. The system is being created in partnership with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, and the City of Birmingham.
