My Green Birmingham is excited to host the third annual Champions of Sustainability, on Tuesday, April 12th, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at Saturn Birmingham. This year’s event will benefit the Green Resource Center of Alabama, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to educating and raising awareness for sustainability related efforts, projects, and initiatives in Alabama and throughout the Southeast.
Champions of Sustainability honors the diverse spectrum of local sustainability efforts helping to shape the future growth and success of the Birmingham region. Each year, a select group of champions are chosen among many qualified nominations to be the recipients of awards for six different sustainability related categories.
This year, My Green Birmingham is especially honored to welcome Laura Turner Seydel as a special guest to the 2016 Champions of Sustainability. Seydel, an international environmental advocate and eco-living expert, is the Chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation, an organization that promotes hands-on environmental education projects worldwide. Among other leadership roles, she is also a director of and works with the Environmental Working Group to limit toxic chemicals in food, air, water, and consumer products.
Seydel herself is the recipient of numerous sustainability and environmental awards, including the National Society of High School Scholars World Betterment Award and the Healthy Child Healthy World’s Mom on a Mission Award.
Seydel and her family reside in Atlanta Georgia where their home has earned the honor of being the first LEED-certified Gold residence in the southeastern United States. To learn more about Laura Turner Seydel and her environmental and humanitarian accomplishments, visit www.lauraseydel.com.
