My Green Birmingham’s 3rd Annual Champions of Sustainability, presented by the City of Birmingham, returns on Tuesday, April 12th, from 5:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m., at Saturn Birmingham. Each year, the event honors select individuals and sustainability successes helping to shape growth and progress throughout the Birmingham area. This year’s event will benefit the Green Resource Center for Alabama, an environmental nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness for sustainability-related efforts and initiatives in Alabama and throughout the Southeast.
My Green Birmingham is proud to welcome special guest, Laura Turner Seydel, to Champions of Sustainability. Seydel, an international environmental advocate and eco-living expert, is the Chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation and is also the recipient of numerous sustainability and environmental awards.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Laura Turner Seydel to Birmingham,” said Natalie Kelly, President of Sustain and publisher of My Green Birmingham. “Her commitment to environmental stewardship has not only paved the way for a range of globally recognized environmental and humanitarian achievements, but it’s also empowered an entire generation to create bold and lasting sustainable solutions to protect and enhance our natural world. Her work exemplifies the kind of efforts and accomplishments we aim to honor each year.”
Champions of Sustainability awards an elite group of committed individuals, companies, and organizations for diverse sustainability successes achieved across six different categories including Leadership, Social Progress, and Outstanding Business. The evening will feature a networking opportunity, honoree presentation, and a special discussion about local sustainability progress in which guests are invited to participate.
“The fact that we’re able to recognize and honor so many local successes through Champions of Sustainability each year demonstrates that our city has moved well beyond a period of initial revitalization,” said Kelly. “It’s evident that Birmingham is filled with the kind of renewed spirit and positive energy necessary to not only sustain and give new life to our local resources but to also use them as an integral part of the natural solution to keep our city progressing for decades to come.”
