The Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens’ largest annual plant sale fundraiser returns this year to Brookwood Village on April 15 – 17. Guests can purchase selections from more than 100,000 plants, many of which have been nurtured by volunteers at The Gardens. In 2015, the annual fundraiser drew more than 7,000 plant enthusiasts to the sale.
1. Stock up on veggies and herbs
Now is the perfect time to get your veggie garden planted and growing! Stock up on tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and more while shopping the spring plant sale.
2 Trust the locals
Learn about a huge variety of native plants available for purchase at the sale, and then grab a few to bring home and help your yard or garden feel right at home.
3 Bring home something different and unique
It’s always fun to shop for new plants and flowers, but it’s even better when you can find something that will truly add a unique look to your landscape or home interior. This year, the plant sale features a variety of different plants such as tropicals like Mandivella, or Bonsia plants.
4 Rain or shine
Sure it may be a little windy and you may need to grab a pullover to stay warm, but taking advantage of shopping first thing in the morning when it’s likely to be bit chilly may give you the best selection of all.
The public sale will be held Friday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., and Sunday, 11 – 3 p.m.Admission to the public sale is free. Numerous opportunities to volunteer are available and can be found at www.bbgardens.org/
