Say So Long to Creepy Crawlies with DIY Pest Control

The arrival of warmer temperatures brings lush green trees, vibrant flower blooms, and unfortunately, bugs — lots and lots of bugs. Before grabbing the chemical laden sprays, consider DIY pest control by mixing up your own natural versions of bug be gone remedies, and say so long to creepy-crawlies lingering around your home!

Ants

1 Tbsp of Borax
¼ cup of confectioner’s sugar

Mix together and sprinkle around the kitchen and other areas of the house that are prone to attracting ants. (Be sure to keep away from children and pets!).

Roaches

2 Tsp of Tree Tea Oil
2 Cups of water

Combine in a spray bottle and spray the mixture around baseboards in the kitchen and bathrooms.

Flies

5 Bay leaves
2 sprigs of rosemary

Place in a shallow bowl and leave on the kitchen counter and around garbage cans.

Prevention

The most important pest control begins with prevention! Avoid leaving food out for prolonged periods of time, keep a lid on the garbage can, and keep kitchen counters clean by wiping them down each day with a mixture of 1 part vinegar and 1 part water. Also, remember to rinse the interiors of any cans or other containers before tossing them in the recycling bin.
